WORKERS COMPENSATION
The current economic climate in the United States has many companies continuously searching for savings to their bottom line profitability. One of the largest concerns is the continued escalation in health care costs including workers compensation. The greatest cost per dollar in workers compensation is indemnity costs (this is the cost companies pay to injured workers while they are off from work).
Statistically 45 cents of every dollar are spent on the medical costs while an astonishing 55 cents are spent in indemnity costs. Companies can have the greatest impact in decreasing their workers compensation losses by actively participating in light duty return to work programs.
We work closely with companies’ human resource and safety management departments to identify light duty positions within the injured workers restrictions. Light duty positions bridge the recovery time until the injured worker has reached full duty status. This philosophy enables the injured work to stay within the workforce as an active employee.
It has been demonstrated that if an injured worker is off work greater than twelve weeks they have less than a 50% chance of ever returning to their pre injury job.
Hereford Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine is an active participant with Maryland Workers Compensation carriers. Our sports medicine model of care facilitates injured employee return to work in a safe and efficient manner. This model is the same used by professional, college and high school sports medicine teams to return injured athletes to competition. By utilizing this model we can positively impact companies in controlling both medical and indemnity costs.
