Steve Kinsey ATC
CEO & Co-Owner
Certified Athletic Trainer

Steve Kinsey

Steve Kinsey brings over eighteen years of athletic training, risk management, industrial medical case management, and ergonomic experience to Hereford Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine.

Steve holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Towson State University (1990) and is a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) through the National Athletic Trainers Association. While at Towson, he was a four-year starting offensive guard for the Tigers. It was here that he developed experience in athletic training as a student and as a student trainer. His leadership both on and off the field made him team co-captain for his senior year.

Following graduation, Steve began his athletic training career working at Pat Croce’s Sports Physical Therapy in southern New Jersey. After gaining rehabilitation experience, he accepted a position with University of Maryland, College Park as an Assistant Athletic Trainer in charge of the football and wrestling teams.

In 1993 Steve left the University of Maryland for the Head Athletic Trainer position with the Naval Academy Prep School (NAPS) in Newport Rhode Island. There, he was in charge of athletic health care for all midshipmen candidates.

When the Canadian Football League expanded to the United States, the Baltimore Stallions offered Steve the Head Athletic Trainer job. He gladly accepted the position and the move back to Maryland. While in Baltimore, the Stallions were runners up and eventual champions of the Grey Cup (the Canadian Football League’s Superbowl). With the relocation of the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore and subsequent move of the Stallions to Montreal, Steve decided to stay in Maryland and accepted an athletic trainer position at Towson Sports Medicine Center where he provided out patient orthopedic rehabilitation to a variety of patients.

Steve left TSM to work for Maryland Sports & Industrial Medicine Services (MSIMS). While with MSIMS he was able to bring the “Sports Medicine” model of health care to many local business and industry groups. He was able to create a “back to work” ideal which reflected the same model as “back to play” for athletic teams.

Steve has worked as a risk control manager for SuperValu Inc, and an Injury Manager for GuilfordPare LLC. At SuperValu he directed and managed the corporate safety/risk control initiatives. He provided medical case management, created injury prevention practices and implemented training and ergonomic programs to decrease the financial impact of their workers compensation loses on the company. While at GuilfordPar he worked with various employers, insurer and reinsurance clients providing consultation and management of workers compensation injuries.

Steve, his wife Karen and Maura Simms provide athletic training services to Hereford High School. Steve is also an active Firefighter/ EMT the Hereford Volunteer Fire Company.
