Fascia:

A connective tissue sheath consisting of fibrous tissue and fat which unites the skin to the underlying tissue.

Fasting Blood Glucose Test:

A diagnostic test for diabetes that is done at a laboratory or doctor's office. The procedure involves testing a blood sample, which is usually taken in the morning before eating, for glucose. A level >140 mg/dl is generally considered diagnostic for diabetes (except in newborns and some pregnant women).

Fat Percentage:

The amount of body weight that is adipose, fat tissue. Fat percentages can be calculated by underwater weighing, measuring select skin fold thickness, or by analyzing electrical impedance.

Femur:

Thigh bone; longest bone in the body.

Fibrositis:

A condition that results in inflammation of connective tissue and muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including overuse, injury, or infection.

Fibula:

Smaller of the two bones in the lower leg; runs from knee to the ankle along the outside of the lower leg.

Flexibility Exercise:

General term used to describe exercise performed by a player to passively or actively elongate soft tissue without the assistance fo an athletic trainer.

Flexion:

Motion of bending a joint as achieved by a flexor muscle.

Flexor:

A muscle that bends a limb.

Fracture:

Breach in continuity of a bone. Types of fractures include simple, compound, comminuted, greenstick, incomplete, impacted, longitudinal, oblique, stress or transverse.

Frostbite:

Damage to the tissues from exposure to temperature below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees C). An initial pins and needles sensation is followed by numbness. After that, the skin appears white, cold and hard, and finally becomes red and swollen
